The undefeated Catalina Cruiser was among 16 horses pre-entered in the Grade 1, $1 million Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile, officials announced Wednesday. The one-turn race will be run Nov. 3 at Churchill Downs.
The Dirt Mile has been scheduled as the fifth race on the card, with a post of 1:16 p.m. Eastern. It will be the third Breeders’ Cup race run on the Saturday program Nov. 3.
Of the 16 horses pre-entered, 10 were also pre-entered in a second Breeders’ Cup race. Final entries will be taken Monday. Here’s a look at the complete list of pre-entries for the Dirt Mile, which will have a maximum gate of 14:

Catalina Cruiser is untested in four career starts, winning those races by a combined margin of 18.50 lengths. He earned a berth into the Dirt Mile for his win in the Grade 2 Pat O’Brien on Aug. 25 at Del Mar. Drayden Van Dyke was aboard and has the mount in the Dirt Mile, according to trainer John Sadler.
Sadler said Catalina Cruiser is scheduled to have his final work for the race Saturday at Santa Anita.
“It will be a blowout type of work, five-eighths,” he said. “Sunday, he’ll be on his way to Kentucky.”
The other pre-entered horse who earned a berth into the Dirt Mile for winning a Breeders’ Cup Challenge race, the Forego, was Whitmore, whose first preference is the Sprint.
Trainer Ron Moquett said the potential pace scenario in the Sprint might be more beneficial to Whitmore.
