Trainer Dallas Stewart on Monday morning here at Churchill Downs said that since it did not look like Seeking the Soul would get into the 14-horse field for the Breeders' Cup Classic by entry time this morning, he would go in the Dirt Mile instead on Saturday.
With Lone Sailor in the Classic and City of Light and Brazavo in the Dirt Mile, Seeking the Soul is now ranked 15th for the Classic. In theory he could be entered in the Classic and hope to draw in from the also-eligible list by Friday at 8 am Eastern, which is scratch time for both Friday and Saturday.
But since horses can only enter one race on a card, if Seeking the Soul was put on the AE list for the Classic and did not draw in, he would blow any chance of competing in the Breeders' Cup. Rather than risk that, he will go in the Dirt Mile, which is not oversubscribed.
Collected thus would become the first also-eligible for the Classic, and he will be entered as such with the hope he can draw in by Friday.
Entries are due this morning, and posts will be drawn for all 14 races beginning at 4 pm Eastern.
