Ruby Notion, who along with Chanteline is one of a couple U.S.-campaigned females pointed for Saturday's Breeders' Cup Turf Sprint, breezed a half-mile in 49 2/5 seconds Monday morning at Churchill Downs Trackside, an off-track training facility located about a 10-minute drive away from Churchill. Trackside clocker Richard McCreery caught her in splits of 12 4 /5, 24 4/5, and 36 4/5 and timed her galloping out in 1:03 1/5.
Ruby Notion, trained by Darren Miller, is one of handful of Breeders' Cup prospects at Trackside, with most of the others trained by Mike Maker. She figures as longshot in the Turf Sprint, though if it rains as heavily as meteorologists are anticipating on Wednesday and Thursday, she may catch the kind of tiring ground she likes on Saturday. This summer at Saratoga she won the Caress over soft turf at odds of 27-1.
