Looking for a double-digit longshot on Breeders’ Cup Friday? Five possibilities …
Race 5, Juvenile Turf Sprint – Pocket Dynamo (No. 12, 20-1) was blocked through deep stretch at Newmarket last out, and finished only five lengths behind the winner. Better-than-looked, for sure. G2-placed Pocket Dynamo drew a tough post, but 20-1 is adequate for the increased risk.
Race 6, Juvenile Fillies Turf – East (No. 14, 20-1) began her career late, in September. She won both starts including a visually impressive G3 in France. East exemplifies one of the best bets in racing: a sharp horse moving up in class at generous odds.
Race 7, Juvenile Fillies – Sippican Harbor (No. 8, 12-1) faces a tall order as fifth choice in a strong field. Her pedigree shouts two turns, she won a G1, she has won setting the pace and and rallying from last. She might be better than her ordinary figures.
Race 8, Juvenile Turf – Much Better (No. 3, 10-1) is the controlling speed; Bob Baffert rarely throws in longshots on a whim. Much Better, third time out, has a longshot chance to lead wire to wire.
Race 9, Juvenile – Mr. Money (No. 2, 30-1) scored a sharp maiden win last out at Churchill Downs. His home-track-maiden-to-home-track-BC pattern is the same as Juvenile winners Action this Day ($55.60 in 2003) and New Year’s Day ($23 in 2013) at Santa Anita.
Post time for the first Breeders’ Cup race, the Juvenile Turf Sprint is 3:21 ET/12:21 PT.
