Game Winner punctuated a perfect 2-year-old season in winning the Breeders' Cup Juvenile over a stubborn Knicks Go.
Winner of the Del Mar Futurity and American Pharoah this summer, in addition to a maiden race, he was farther off the pace than usual in the Juvenile and wide. Still, he closed resolutely from eighth, advancing into contention on the second turn, and pulled away by 2 1/4 lengths over Knicks Go in the final furlong.
The latter, who chased Complexity through fractions of 23.24 seconds, 46.87 and 1:11.23, initially proved tough to pass but was worn down late and settled for second. He came out and bumped the winner in midstretch.
Signalman closed to be third, a length behind the runner-up.
Jockey Joel Rosario scored his second Breeders' Cup dirt win after having ridden Jaywalk to victory in the Juvenile Fillies.
The winner, 2-year-old son of Candy Ride trained by Bob Baffert and owned by Mary and Gary West, raced 1 1/16 miles on a fast track in 1:43.67. He paid $4.
Jaywalk covered the same distance in 1:43.62 in winning the Juvenile Fillies about an hour earlier, albeit with a far smoother trip.
