The field has arrived in the paddock for the Breeders' Cup Filly and Mare Turf, and Wild Illusion, who is looking to give the Godolphin team a second win on the weekend, is currently the favorite on the board, at 6-5 with 17 minutes to post. The Dubawi filly, who is coming in off back-to-back Group 1 victories in the Nassau at Goodwood and the Prix de l'Opera at Longchamp, has been on her toes all week, even tossing her rider during turf training one morning, but appeared well in hand as she made her way down the Churchill stretch and into the paddock tunnel.
Chad Brown, of course, will saddle five in this race, led by multiple Grade 1 winners Sistercharlie (currently 4-1 on the board) and A Raving Beauty (13-1), either of whom could make their case for a divisional Eclipse Award with a victory. The distance has been the major question mark for A Raving Beauty. Brown also has Grade 1-winning New York-bred Fourstar Crook (currently 6-1), who drew the hedge, not necessarily where you wanted to be yesterday; Thais (74-1), who breaks next to her; and Santa Monica (37-1).
The turf is officially rated good, but the general consensus is that that is on the yielding side of good. We have only run one turf race so far today (the Turf Sprint), so take that with a grain of salt.
On a bloodstock note, this race could have major implications for tomorrow night's Fasig-Tipton November sale, as A Raving Beauty, Fourstar Crook, Paved, and Fuhriously Kissed are all scheduled to be sold as racing or broodmare prospects.
