Roy H, a 6-year-old gelding by More Than Ready, is owned by Gary Hartunian’s Rockingham Ranch Stable and David Bernsen and trained by Peter Miller. Earlier in the day those same connections won the $1 million Turf Sprint with Stormy Liberal, for his second straight victory in that race.
Roy H added the BC Sprint to a victory in last month’s Grade 1 Santa Anita Sprint Championship and could be poised to win his second straight Eclipse Award as champion male sprinter.
The victory was the first in a Breeders’ Cup race for jockey Paco Lopez, who rode the horse with supreme confidence, taking a peak behind him at the quarter pole as he knew he had the leaders when he wanted.
