Trainer Bob Baffert on Sunday morning said that his two runners in the Breeders' Cup Distaff on Saturday, Abel Tasman and Vale Dori, have been retired and will be bred next year.
Abel Tasman, last year's champion 3-year-old filly and a candidate for the older dirt female title this year, finished last of 11 on Saturday. Baffert said she is headed to co-owner Clearsky Farms in Kentucky, but no stallion had yet been chosen.
Abel Tasman retires with a record of eight wins in 16 starts, most notably the 2017 Kentucky Oaks, which was one of six Grade 1 victories she took down during her career.
Vale Dori, 4, was 10th in the Distaff. She is going to Hill N Dale Farm, and will be bred to Triple Crown winner Justify, who will be beginning his stud career in February at Coolmore America.
Vale Dori, 6, won 10 of 22 starts, including the Grade 1 Zenyatta in her final race before the Distaff.
Those two were part of a disappointing Saturday for Baffert, who also had McKinzie and West Coast in the Classic as well as favored Marley's Freedom in the Filly and Mare Sprint. His lone winner this weekend was Game Winner in the Juvenile on Friday.
"I should have gone home after Friday," he said.
