Lust for Glory, a 5-year-old mare purchased for more than $300,000 in late 2017, won her hurdling debut in a Mares' Novices' Hurdle at 2 1-16 miles at Newbury Racecourse in England on Thursday.
The manner of the win suggests Lust for Glory will be prominent in novice hurdles in the forthcoming jump season, which started in earnest in recent weeks. She certainly has the right connections. Lust or Glory, an Irish-bred by Getaway, is trained by Nicky Henderson, annually a leading jumps trainer in England.
In Thursday's race, Lust for Glory prevailed by 3 1-4 lengths over the well-regarded Posh Trish. Lust for Glory, who was ridden by Jeremiah McGrath, has her first start in six months on Thursday. She won a two-mile flat race for jump horses, or national hunt horses, at Ludlow Racecourse in May.
The mare attracted widespread attention after she won a point-to-point race in Ireland in October 2017.
