Hall of Fame jockey Kent Desormeaux is nearing his 6,000 career win.

In Monday's sixth race, Desormeaux guided Apache Princess ($7.40) to an easy win in an allowance race with an $80,000 claiming option on the hillside turf course. The victory gave Desormeaux his 5,998th win in North America.

Apache Princess is trained by Desormeaux's brother, Keith Desormeaux.

Kent Desormeaux can reach 6,000 wins this afternoon, though it may not be easy. He has two more mounts - Lu Cat (3) in the seventh race and Crazy Uncle Rick (2) in the ninth race.
