In a sudden reversal of a decision made earlier this week, Gulfstream officials announced Thursday morning that there will NOT be a forceout of the growing Rainbow 6 jackpot on Sunday, the day after the big Pegasus World Cup card. The track originally had intended to disburse the entire pool, which has been done on occasion in recent years, but obtained permission from state regulators to rescind the forceout.
No official reason for the reversal was forthcoming, but the local forecast calls for a 100-percent chance of rain Sunday, and 3 of the 6 races that comprise the Rainbow (races 7-12) are scheduled for turf.
Into Thursday, the Rainbow 6 carryover stands at $482,492.
A $750,000 guarantee for a solo winning ticket on Pegasus Day remains in effect.
There has been no decision announced on when the next forceout will be.
Last year, nearly $4 million was in the Rainbow 6 jackpot after Pegasus Day, and Gulfstream handled a whopping $15,788,225 on the Rainbow 6 the following afternoon when forcing out the pool. Winning tickets paid $15,566.
