Saturday's $150,000 Sunshine Millions Filly and Mare Sprint for California-bred fillies and mares has a racing rarity - three runners from the same dam, Lady Railrider. They line up side-by-side in the race on the race on the hillside turf course.
Pulpit Rider (2) and Halo Darlin (3) are full-sisters by Lucky Pulpit, while Fiery Lady (4) is by Unusual Heat. Of the trip, Pulpit Rider and Fiery Lady have the best chances in the field of eight.
All three were bred by Larry and Marianne Williams, who still own Pulpit Rider, a 4-year-old trained by Mike Pupye. Pulpit Rider was third in an allowance race with a $62,500 claiming option at a mile on turf on Dec. 30.
Halo Darlin, a 6-year-old claimed for $25,000 from the Williamses and Puype in November, won a $35,000 claimer for non-winners of three on Jan. 10 in her first start for trainer Rafael Becerra.
Finally, Fiery Lady races for Anna Meah. A 5-year-old, Fiery Lady was claimed for $32,000 from the Williamses and trainer Steve Specht at Golden Gate Fields on Nov. 29 and was second in the Miss America STakes on the synthetic surface there on Dec. 8.
