(UPDATED 9:45 ET to reflect scratch of Cave Run)
It's a perfect day for horse racing here on the Gulf Coast of Florida as a 12-race Festival Preview Day highlighted by the lone Kentucky Derby qualifying-points event of the weekend, the G3 Sam F. Davis (R11), is straight ahead. We'll be fast and firm all day, with mostly sunny skies and high temps to reach the mid-70s. First post is 12:12 ET.
There are two notable scratches from the 4 straight stakes (R8-11) that end with the Davis, and those being RYMSKA (8) out of the G3 Endeavour (R10) and CAVE RUN (4) out of the featured Davis.
As for Rymska, who would have been one of the heaviest favorites of the day, Chad Brown said early yesterday the standout turf mare will remain on the other side of the Fla. peninsula to run instead in the G3 Suwanee River at Gulfstream.
There is no all-stakes pick-4 wager, but you can roll your pick-3s or use the four stakes in the late pick-5 (R8-12) that ends with a $16k turf-mile claimer.
The Davis offers Ky. Derby points on a scale of 10-4-2-1, while the ungraded Suncoast (R9) offers the same points scale toward the Ky. Oaks.
Here are the early SCR:
R1-(10 and all AEs); R5-(11); R6-(5, 10, 14); R7-(2, 7, 9, 13, 14); R9-(5); R10-(8); R11-(4); R12-(all AEs).
