Nine races Sunday at Santa Anita, turf labelled “good” and main track “fast.” All races remain at their scheduled distances including three downhill sprints, according to the racing office. Chance of showers at 12 noon, per weather.com. Workout analyst Andy Harrington said the main track was glib for morning workouts. Sunday preview …
Race 1 – In-form favorites Jimmy Chila (3) and Blitzkrieg (1) are solid in this downhill starter allowance; Chill (5) merits 6-1 longshot consideration returning to turf.
Race 3 – Six entered this downhill sprint, first-level allowance for 3-year-old fillies. Angel Alessandra (1) is favored on the turnback, while the 8-1 longest shot warrants a look. Cedars of Lebanon (5) goes route to sprint after losing her punch three U.S. routes.
Race 5 – This $20,000 claiming race is five furlongs on turf, and bettors must be skeptical regarding top-choice favorite Anatolian Heat (6). He was a three-other-than allowance winner last spring, but returns for a low claim tag. Best horse, dubious on the class-drop/layoff. Want a bomber? Rocky Rogue (8) is 15-1, returning to turf for the first time since last summer when third in a pair of five-furlong turf sprints on this circuit.
Race 6 – No knocks on favorites Wild Bean (3) or He Be Mojo Risin (1) in this maiden-50 for Cal-bred 3yos. No surprise if Wild Bean is bet down from 5-2 program odds.
Race 7 – Deep field of N2X turf milers. This handicapper’s one-twos are Kazan (9) at 6-1 and Keep Quiet (3) at 9-2. Also interested in Dreams of Valor (7), a 20-1 front-runner that will take them as far as he can.
Race 9 – Rinse and Repeat (5), runner-up at this $25k claiming non-winners two level last out, over this downhill course, looks like the most probable winner on the card. Last out, he finished only two lengths behind race-1 contender Blitzkrieg.
Live longshots: Cedars of Lebanon in race 3, Rocky Rogue in race 5, and Dreams of Valor in race 7. Most likely winner: Rinse and Repeat in race 9.
