Thirty-nine minutes after 10-pound apprentice jockey Heman Harkie scored his first career win in race 5 at Aqueduct, Samuel Cardona notched his intiial United States victory in race 7 at Laurel Park.
Harkie, who has been riding in New York since June, is now one for 37. He guided Seethisquick to a 9 1/4-length win in a $40,000 maiden claiming race for trainer Darmindra Dharamjit.
Cardona won a second-level optional-claiming race aboard Showalter for trainer Gary Capuano. It was his fourth career mount in the U.S..
He went seven for 43 in Puerto Rico before coming to Maryland. He began riding at Laurel on Feb. 15.
