A couple of potential Fountain of Youth starters, Signalman and Admire, got in their final works for the race on a clear, warm and very busy Saturday morning at Gulfstream Park.
Signalman worked in company with his stablemate, Holy Bull winner Harvey Wallbanger, shortly after the renovation break and was best of the team. Working outside, Signalman posted splits of 24.82 and 36.99 before completing five furlongs in 1:01.75 while holding a slight advantage and going easiest to the wire. He continued to hold the edge while kept well off the rail on the gallop out.
Admire worked after the second renovation break in company with Come On Gerry and was much the best of this duo, completing five furlongs from the half-mile pole in 23.92, 47.69, 1:00.62 while just nudged along to finish at the mile pole with his partner under heavy pressure futilely trying to keep pace at the end.
Maximus Mischief had originally been scheduled to have his final FOY work this morning but trainer Robert (Butch) Reid pushed the breeze back one day with jockey Jose Ortiz expected to be aboard after the renovation break on Sunday.
