With the main track training hours truncated this morning and abandoned on Tuesday, it has been a busy morning already at Santa Anita, with the early morning workers including top 3-year-olds Improbable and Galilean.
Improbable, trained by Bob Baffert, worked six furlongs in 1:12 under Drayden Van Dyke in his penultimate move for his scheduled 3yo debut in the San Felipe on March 9. He has not raced since the Los Alamitos Futurity in December.
Galilean, trained by Jerry Hollendorfer, went a half-mile in 47.40 seconds in his first drill since winning the California Cup Derby one week ago. Hollendorfer said he will make his next start in the Rebel Stakes at Oaklawn on March 16.
Also working this morning was Dessman, a Baffert trainee who is entered in a one-mile allowance on Friday. He went an easy half-mile in 48.80 seconds.
There's one more renovation still to come and flurry of activity expected following that break, with 2yo champ Game Winner, Instagrand, and Rowayton among those scheduled to go.
I'll be back with an update later, plus a full story will be posted to www.drf.com at morning's end.
