Santa Anita: Sergio breaks maiden in 12th start

Well, it took awhile, but Sergio ($4.40) finally joined the ranks of winners in Thursday's fouth race for $20,000 maiden claimes.

Ridden by Geovanni Franco, Sergio caught pacesetter Pig Iron (9-2) in the final strides to win the six-furlong race by 1 1-2 lengths. Sergio, a 5-year-old gelding, races for owner and trainer Steve Miyadi.
