Precieuse gave trainer Chad Brown his second turf stakes winner on the card on Saturday at Gulfstream Park when she out-battled Valedictorian in the closing yards to take the Grade 3, $150,000 Honey Fox Stakes for older females.
Precieuse ($4), the favorite, sat fifth inside during the early going, split horses three furlongs out to begin her rally, was three paths wide much of the bend, and had to get to Valedictorian, who got first run on her when early pacesetter La Signare began to fade.
Precieuse needed the length of the stretch to finally wear down a stubborn Valedictorian. Bellavais finished well for third.
Precieuse covered one mile on firm turf in 1:34.14.
This was the second start in this country for Precieuse. In her only previous start, last summer at Saratoga, she was second to stablemate Uni in the De La Rose. Uni later in the year won the Grade 1 Matriarch.
Peter Brant owns Precieuse, a 5-year-old mare by Tamayuz. He also owns last year's female turf champ, Sistercharlie. Precieuse, winner of the French 1,000 Guineas at age 3, has now won three times in nine starts, with five seconds.
