The fastest dirt mile at Santa Anita (1:35.81) since last June earned a 101 Beyer, as Edwards Going Left re-rallied to defeat King Abner by a half-length in the Tiznow Stakes on Sunday at Santa Anita. The race, run over a “good” track, was the fastest dirt mile since Unique Bella won the Grade 1 Beholder in 1:35.60 on June 2, 2018.
The win by Edwards Going Left continued a hot streak for the trainer-jockey combination of John Sadler and Joel Rosario, now 15-for-33 at the winter meet. Along with owner Hronis Racing, Sadler and Rosario will team again Saturday with Gift Box in the Grade 1 Santa Anita Handicap.
Tiznow runner-up King Abner ran the best race of his career to earn a 100 Beyer, while Surfing Star finished exactly where he figured to – distant third while making his first start in four months.
