VINO ROSSO (8) was a popular three-year-old last year for Todd Pletcher, but if we're being honest - he was an underachiever. Yes, he did win the Wood Memorial over this Aqueduct main track last April, but after that he failed to truly menace in any of the big races (the Jim Dandy was fine, but that field as a whole was suspect). I'm not suggesting he can't win this afternoon's Stymie, but I've always thought of him as a horse that would appreciate longer distances and one that shouldn't be trusted at short prices until he proves he's put it together mentally. At 1-1 with 12 MTP, he's an underlay for me.
If you're looking to take a shot against him, interesting alternatives include SUNNY RIDGE (2) (although he was chilly on the board early) and STAN THE MAN (4).
