Bellafina turned in a sparkling five-furlong workout Monday morning at Santa Anita, five furlongs in :59.20 over a main track that did not produce excessively fast times.
The top 3-year-old filly in California, Bellafina entered the $200,000 Sunland Oaks this coming Sunday, but owner Kaleem Shah confirmed she would stay home and run April 6 in the Santa Anita Oaks.
As for Bellafina's workout, National Turf clocker Andy Harrington said: “She made the track look fast.”
Other workouts Monday include Bob Baffert-trained Mucho Gusto and Chasing Yesterday. Mucho Gusto is the favorite for the Grade 3 Sunland Derby on Sunday; Chasing Yesterday is likely to inherit favoritism for the Sunland Oaks. Details later at drf.com.
