European import Hostess, an English-bred making her U.S. debut and first start of 2019, collared her Simon Callaghan-trained stablemate Maxim Rate on the wire to win the Grade 3 Providencia Stakes for 3-year-old fillies by a nose on Saturday at Santa Anita. Lady Prancealot, the favorite, finished a nose back in third in the mile and eighth turf race.

Hostess won one of three starts last year in England. The final time was 1:47.09.

The stakes win was the second of the day for Callaghan, whose 3-year-old filly Bellafina earlier won the Santa Anita Oaks.
