The M and M Racing stable of Mike and Mickala Sisk set a single-season record for owner wins at Oaklawn in the ninth race Sunday, when C J's Flair ($4.60) gave the couple their 49th win at the current stand. It was the fourth win on the card for the Sisks.
The Sisks broke a 1974 record held by Dan Lasater.
Mike Sisk said on Sunday he had about 20 people at the races this afternoon at Oaklawn, with a handful experiencing their first trip to a racetrack.
Sisk said he set a goal of breaking the record this meet, and a year ago began claiming horses with that quest in mind. The Sisks won last year's owner title at Oaklawn.
"Leave a legacy," Mike Sisk said of the couple's motivation to achieve the record.
The four winners for the Sisks on Sunday were all trained by Robertino Diodoro. David Cohen was aboard three of those winners, including C.J.'s Flair. Orlando Mojica was aboard the record-tying winner, Frost or Frippery ($5.20), in the sixth Sunday. The other winners for the couple were Curiousncuriouser ($3.20) in the first and Dreamer's Point ($4.40) in the third Sunday.
