Graded stakes winner Catalina Cruiser posted his first comeback workout Tuesday on a warm, sunny morning at Santa Anita. The 5-year-old worked three furlongs in :37.80 for trainer John Sadler, who will aim the two-time Grade 2 winner to a spring-summer campaign.
Catalina Cruiser, winner of the San Diego Handicap and Pat O’Brien Stakes last summer at Del Mar, has not started since finishing sixth as the favorite in the Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile on Nov. 3 at Churchill Down. A 5-year-old, Catalina Cruisier has won four races and $313,600 for Hronis Racing.
Marley’s Freedom, the Bob Baffert trainee aiming to the Grade 1 Humana Distaff on the Kentucky Derby undercard May 4 at Churchill Downs, worked a half-mile Tuesday at Santa Anita in :48.60, co-fastest of 19 works at the distance. Marley’s Freedom, a five-time graded stakes winner, finished second as the favorite March 30 in the Grade 1 Beholder Mile. Tuesday’s work was her first work since raced.
