Sistercharlie, last year's champion turf female, has resumed training after missing time due to sickness in March, trainer Chad Brown said Wednesday. Earlier this year she had been on a regular breeze schedule with the aim of her defending her title in Saturday's Grade 1 Jenny Wiley at Keeneland, plans that were scrapped.
"Unfortunately, she got sick on us about a month ago," he said. "She's back to the track now. The illness was untimely, caused us to miss this race. I am hoping she'll work soon."
Brown is still represented by three runners in the Jenny Wiley: Rushing Fall, Rymska and Onthemoonagain.
In another stable update from Brown, he said Environs, who won a second-level allowance at Keeneland Apr. 5, would be nominated for the Longines Churchill Turf Mile on Derby Day and given consideration for that race. The Churchill Turf Mile in a Grade 2 race that carries a $500,000 purse.
