Night At the Opera walked into a horse ambulance after a frightening incident in Friday's second race when the 4-year-old gelding fell in the final sixteenth while racing at the back of the field.
The stewards reported that Night At the Opera suffered from fatigue, leading to the fall. Night At the Opera was transported to trainer Jorge Periban's barn.
The incident happened in the final strides of a $12,500 claimer at 5 1-2 furlongs. When Night At the Opera fell, jockey Eswan Flores was unseated. Flores was taken to first aid for a precautionary examination. He does not have any additional mounts on Friday's program.
Night At the Opera was attended to by veterinarians on the track and rose after he regained his air, veterinarians told the stewards.
Flores and Night At the Opera both received warm ovations from the small ontrack crowd after it became apparent that neither had sustained any serious injury.
