Monmouth: Beem to call races until Mirahmadi arrives

Jason Beem will take over the announcing duties at Monmouth Park until full-time race caller Frank Mirahmadi returns to the Oceanport, N.J., track on June 28 following the conclusion of the Santa Anita Park season.

Beem, 38, called the races at Portland Meadows for 10 years through 2014. He also was the announcer at Louisiana Downs, River Downs and Emerald Downs before taking a sabbatical from the profession. He returned to the mic last fall to fill in for Peter Aiello at Gulfstream Park West.

A native of Washington State, Beem has never been to Monmouth before.

“I’m a West Coast guy but I know the tradition and history of Monmouth Park,” Beem said in a track press release. “I’m flattered even as a fill-in to get the opportunity to call there. I’m certainly nervous but it’s a good nervous. I’m excited for this opportunity.”

Mirahmadi, who has called the races at Monmouth since 2015, was hired by Santa Anita last year. He recommended that Monmouth consider Beem as his temporary replacement.

“Jason does an excellent job calling races and I know the fans and horsemen will appreciate his talents,” Mirahmadi said.

Monmouth Park opens its 74th season May 4 and runs through Oct. 27.
