Julian Pimentel, who has ridden Win Win Win to all three of his career victories, will be back aboard the Blue Grass runner-up for the Kentucky Derby, trainer Michael Trombetta confirmed Monday afternoon.
This will be Pimentel's first Kentucky Derby mount. In fact, he has not ridden a race at Churchill Downs in his career.
Irad Ortiz Jr. had ridden Win Win Win in the Tampa Bay Derby and Blue Grass but has taken the call on Improbable for the Derby.
Trombetta said he and owner Charlotte Weber talked Monday afternoon and agreed to put Pimentel back on.
"He's ridden the horse well, set a track record on him [in the Pasco Stakes] and he's ridden a lot for me," Trombetta said.
According to Daily Racing Form statistics, Pimentel has ridden 361 winners for Trombetta from 1,825 mounts.
