Game Winner, the Santa Anita Derby runner-up, worked five furlongs in 1:00.80 and continued on out strongly at Santa Anita on Saturday morning in his penultimate drill for the Kentucky Derby on May 4 at Churchill Downs.
Game Winner sat a couple of lengths off his workmate after breaking off near the half-mile pole, and was six in front and pulling away with every stride at the wire. He worked down to the seven-furlong pole to complete five furlongs, and went on out another furlong under jockey Martin Garcia.
His trainer, Bob Baffert, was delighted with the way Game Winner went, his work coming a little more than an hour after Roadster, the Santa Anita Derby winner, turned in an eye-catching drill, too.
"I'm having a good day, honey," Baffert said to his wife, Jill.
