Laughing Fox, who ran fourth in the Grade 1, $1 million Arkansas Derby, had his first work since that April 13 race on Wednesday at Oaklawn, going five-eighths in a bullet 59.80 seconds.
Trainer Steve Asmussen said Laughing Fox is being pointed for the $300,000 Oaklawn Invitational, a mile and an eighth race that had 21 horses on a nomination list issued by the Oaklawn racing office Wednesday and posted on Equibase. The winner earns a berth into the Preakness. The race will be run May 4 at Oaklawn.
Other invitees include Harvey Wallbanger, Math Wizard, Nolo Contesto, Mucho Gusto, Shang and Wicked Indeed.
Night Ops, an impressive maiden winner at Oaklawn, also is an invitee and the race is a consideration, according to his trainer, Brad Cox.
