Trainer Chad Brown said Newspaperofrecord came out of her second place finish behind Concrete Rose as the overwhelming favorite in Friday's Grade 3 Edgewood Stakes in good order. The setback was her first in four career starts and came in her first outing since capping a perfect 2-year-old campaign with a one-sided victory here at Churchill Downs last fall in the Breeders' Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf.
"She checked out of the race fine, she ran hard, she was just second best yesterday," said Brown. "I blame most of that on myself. I didn't have her fit enough. I didn't anticipate the race being that hard. I thought the winner was very good yesterday and it would have taken a top effort to beat her. I could have done more with her in the mornings, so I'll take that one and move on and learn from it. We'll have her ready for the next one."
