WARRIOR'S CHARGE, a last-out winner of an allowance race at Oaklawn Park, has been announced by trainer Brad Cox as a starter for the upcoming Preakness. The speedy son of Munnings will be making his stakes debut in the May 18 race at Pimlico.
Warrior's Charge, a Florida-bred colt, is owned by Ten Strike Racing and Madaket Stables. He began his career with 3 straight maiden defeats before easily winning a 1 1/16-mile maiden race at Oaklawn on March 16, earning an 89 Beyer Speed Figure. He then won an April 12 allowance at 1 1/16 miles by 6 1/2 lengths, earning a 97 Beyer. Both wins came in front-running fashion.
Javier Castellano will have the mount.
Cox already has a Preakness prospect in OWENDALE, winner of the G3 Lexington at Keeneland in his last start. Florent Geroux has the mount. Both Warrior's Charge and Owendale will have their final pre-race breezes Saturday morning at Churchill Downs.
A field of 10 or 11 is taking shape for the Preakness, with IMPROBABLE and WAR OF WILL the likely favorites.
