The top 2-year-old grass horse in California last season took an important step toward a 3-year-old campaign by working three furlongs in :35.40 on Friday at Los Alamitos.
Flying Scotsman, who defeated Omaha Beach in a maiden turf route last fall at Santa Anita prior to a romping victory at Del Mar in the Grade 3 Cecil B. DeMille, has not started since the DeMille on Nov. 25. His Friday work was his first since he resumed training. Flying Scotsman has won two of three starts.
Owned and bred by Calumet Farm, Flying Scotsman is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer. An option for his comeback race is the $100,000 Oceanside Stakes on July 17, opening day of the Del Mar meet. The Oceanside is for 3-year-olds at one mile on turf.
