Santa Anita: Roses for Laura wins circuit's first 2yo race

Roses for Laura ($9.80) closed along the rail to win a maiden special weight race for 2-year-old fillies at 4 1-2 furlongs in Friday's third race, the first race for juveniles in Southern California this year.

Ridden by Edgar Payeras, Roses for Laura was fourth early, while racing on the inside. She waited for room on the turn and closed well to pull away by three lengths, finishing in 54.18 seconds.

Vegan, the 4-5 favorite, dueled for the lead with stablemate Cheap Cheap Cheap throughout and held second, a nose in front of Cheap Cheap Cheap in a field of six.

Roses for Laura, by Time to Get Even, races for Tom and Sally London, Terry Lovingier and Eugene Zondlo and is trained by Gary Sherlock. Roses for Laura was bred by Lovingier.
