Through the first five races on Sunday, the familiar team of owners Paul and Zillah Reddam, trainer Doug O'Neill and jockey Mario Gutierrez have had two wins at Santa Anita - the 2yo maiden filly Acai in the third race and Dont Sell in the fifth race, in an allowance race with a $20,000 claiming option for California-bred turf sprinters.
They have a chance for a hat trick, well, sort of.
In the ninth race, they start Radish (9) in a maiden race for California-bred fillies and mares at a mile on turf. If Radish win, it certainly is their day. Radish is 0-for-27, but was second by a neck in a race in January. She has been second or third 15 times.
Radish is part of a field of 10 led by Lucky Lately (10), who was beaten a head in a similar race on April 20.
