Remington Park in Oklahoma City has announced dates for this year's Oklahoma Derby and Springboard Mile as part of the release of its stakes schedule for the Thoroughbred meet that opens Aug. 23. The 67-date season runs through Dec. 15.
Remington has planned 32 stakes, with those races worth more than $3.7 million. The richest offerings will be the Oklahoma Derby and the Springboard Mile, with each carrying a purse of $400,000.
The Grade 3 Oklahoma Derby will be run Sunday, Sept. 29. Last year the race was won by Lone Sailor, who in April ran a close second in the Grade 2, $750,000 Oaklawn Handicap. The Oklahoma Derby will again share a card with the Grade 3, $200,000 Remington Park Oaks. Last year the race was won by She's a Julie, who in May won the Grade 1 La Troienne at Churchill Downs.
The Springboard Mile for 2-year-olds will be run Dec. 15. Last year the race carried eligiblity points for the Kentucky Derby. Long Range Toddy, who ran in the Kentucky Derby, won last year's Springboard Mile and in March captured a division of the Grade 2, $750,000 Rebel at Oaklawn.
