LEXITONIAN was up in the final jumps to get past GLADIATOR KING while finishing clear of a late surge by ADMIRAL LYNCH in posting a 17-1 upset amid a three-way photo in the 10th running of the Grade 3, $200,000 Chick Lang Stakes on the Preakness card at Pimlico Race Course.
Ridden by Jose Ortiz for trainer Jack Sisterson and owner-breeder Calumet Farm, Lexitonian returned $36 after finishing the six-furlong distance in 1:09.74. It was the second stakes win of the day for Calumet, following English Bee in the James W. Murphy.
The full order was 1-6-4-7-9-2-3-5-8. PREAMBLE, the 8-5 favorite, had no mishap when finishing last to incur his first career defeat.
The $2 exacta (1-6) paid $392.20, the $1 triple (1-6-4) returned $1,785.90, and the 10-cent superfecta (1-6-4-7) was worth $886.15.
Jim Dunleavy will have the full Chick Lang recap up before long on www.drf.com.
