Trainer Blaine Wright has three of the nine horses entered in the featured $50,00 Auburn Stakes for 3-year-olds which goes as race 8. Included in uncoupled trio is (5) Baja Sur who is the 8-5 morning-line favorite.
It will be Baja Sur's first start of the year. He dominated his opponents in two starts as a juvenile, which included a 10 1/2 length romp in the $45,000 King County Express.
(1) Perfect Dude, who had two starts in California for trainer Peter Miller last year, was impressive winning a maiden special weight race in his first start for Wright at Emerald. He could be dangerous if he breaks alertly from his inside post.
(3) Rally Cat will be making his first start since going unplaced in the $75,000 Gold Rush at Golden Gate on Dec. 1.
Wright said he Baja Sur has been training extremely well and expects the Washington-bred son of Smiling Tiger to run a big race.
The track is fast.
