Trooper John will go down in the history books as the first stakes winner at Century Mile. He paid $3.80 for his win over Born in a Breeze in the $50,000 Journal Handicap.

The Tim Rycroft-trained 5-year-old was ridden by Wilber Galviz and posted a final time of 1:08.31 in the 6-furlong sprint for 3-year-olds and up.

Trooper John won the Journal last year at Northlands Park.
