Trainer Mindy Willis - who already has a turf winner on the Lone Star Park card in Tiz Plus ($10) - will go for a stakes win over the local lawn later on the program when she sends out Texas Belle in the ninth, the $50,000 Lane's End Danny Shifflett Scholarship Stakes.
The race is part of an all-stakes pick four that starts in the sixth race Sunday.
Texas Belle returns to the Texas-bred ranks for the Lane’s End , which is a seven and a half furlong turf race for fillies and mares. The last time Texas Belle ran with statebreds she won the $50,000 San Jacinto at Sam Houston in March. She will break from post 4, under Rudy Guerra.
“She’s got speed, but she’s comfortable laying off of it,” Willis said. “I don’t think she’ll be on the lead because there is some speed in there. We’ll probably be laying just off the pace, I would think.”
