Sharp Dressed Beau was very impressive winning the $50,000 Count Lathum Handicap. Considering he was under wraps when he beat mostly the same horses in the $50,000 Western Canada Handicap on June 2, the $9.70 win price has to be viewed as a huge overlay.
With Rigo Sarmineto aboard, the Oregon-bred son of Car Talk broke sharply, stalked Coco Tiger through a wicked half-mile in 45.95 seconds, took control on the stretch turn, and drew off to win by daylight over Call It a Wrap who ralled late. Parking Permit finished third.
The final time over a track rated muddy was 1:37.75.
Trained by Rick Hedge, Sharp Dressed Beau races for Empire Equestrian.
