Jaywalk, last year's champion 2-year-old filly who was anything but champion-like in her first three starts this year, just ran away with the Delaware Oaks.

Putting aside for a moment the quality of the field she beat and if this runaway score does indeed signal that Jaywalk is indeed back to her old self, I have to wonder about the fractions posted in the race. The Delaware Park teletimer (the times posted there are in fifths of a second) says Jaywalk went her first quarter mile in 24.00 and her third quarter in 21.60 seconds.

Visually, the Delaware Oaks pace did seem to heat up down the back stretch. But I'm not at all convinced it heated up to that extent.
