Mr. Money, blowout winner of the Grade 3 Pat Day Mile and Grade 3 Matt Winn during the recently concluded Churchill Downs spring meet, will make his next start in Saturday's Grade 3, $500,000 Indiana Derby at Indiana Grand, trainer Bret Calhoun said.
A 3-year-old son of Goldencents, Mr. Money is seeking his first victory outside Churchill Downs, over which he has a clear affinity for that surface. He is three for four at Churchill, winning a maiden race last fall in addition to his stake triumphs there this spring. He earned Beyer Speed Figures of 96 and 98 in winning the Pat Day Mile and Matt Winn, respectively.
He is zero for four on dirt surfaces. He has yet to race over the Indiana Grand strip.
Calhoun said after the Matt Winn that he liked the timing between starts into the Indiana Derby, as well as the race's 1 1/16-mile distance. His maiden victory and Matt Winn score came at 1 1/16 miles.
The Indiana Derby is one of six stakes at Indiana Grand on Saturday, which also includes the Grade 3. $200,000 Indiana Oaks. Entries are Wednesday.
