Trainer Brad Cox on Monday said Owendale could make his next start in one of two Breeders' Cup races in November at Santa Anita, but he first wants to see how the horse emerges from his win in Sunday night's Grade 3, $400,000 Oklahoma Derby. Owendale was due to arrive back home at Churchill Downs on Tuesday.
"First and foremost we want to see how he comes out of the race," said Cox, who trains Owendale for Rupp Racing.
Owendale earned a Beyer Speed Figure of 97 for his win in the Oklahoma Derby, his third Grade 3 victory during a year in which he also ran third in the Preakness Stakes.
Cox said Owendale's options for the Breeders' Cup would be the Classic or Dirt Mile.
