Elate still has to get through the Spinster Stakes this Sunday at Keeneland, and she's already in the Breeders' Cup Distaff via a Win and You're In victory in the Fleur de Lis Stakes in June at Churchill Downs, but her trainer, Bill Mott, on Monday reiterated that the Breeders' Cup Classic remains a viable spot for the mare.
"I'm leaning toward the Classic a little bit," Mott said Monday, while emphasizing that nothing will be decided until after he sees how Elate performs in the Spinster.
The appeal of the Classic for Mott is that Elate is 3 for 3 at 1 1/4 miles. The Distaff, restricted to females, is 1 1/8 miles.
"I'm not ruling either race out," he said of the Distaff and the Classic, both of which are Nov. 2 at Santa Anita.
Mott also has the males Tacitus and Yoshida under consideration for the Classic.
