Lisa Bernard, who began training earlier this year, won her first race with her sixth starter with Reds Sacred Appeal in a $20,000 claimer for maidens in Thursday's first race.
Bernard, 36, has a small stable based at San Luis Rey Downs. She took over the operation of trainer Walther Solis, who is now involved with Lovacres Ranch.
Bernard has a background with harness horses and Thoroughbreds on the East Coast and relocated to California three years ago. She is also involved with preparing some of Lovacres Ranch's former runners for second careers.
