The second-time starter Torosay ($7.40) ran 5 1-2 furlongs on turf in 1:01.49 to lower the course record in Sunday's third race, a maiden special weight.
Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Torosay led throughout and won by four lengths. A 3-year-old gelding, Torosay bettered the previous mark of 1:01.51 set by Castle on Oct. 19.
The track began running 5 1-2 furlongs races on turf at the start of the current meeting on Sept. 27. Sunday is closing day.
Torosay is owned by W C Racing and trained by Doug O'Neill. He was eighth in his debut at Del Mar on Aug. 25 and was fitted with blinkers for the first time on Sunday.
