Blue Chipper, who became the first horse to represent Korea in the Breeders’ Cup when he ran third in the Dirt Mile on Nov. 2 at Santa Anita, was due to arrive home this week, according to Seungho Ryu, general manager of the international department of the Korea Racing Authority. The horse is based at Busan Racecourse in South Korea.
Ryu said there are three major objectives for Blue Chipper in 2020. The first is the Group 2, $1.5 million Goldolphin Mile at Meydan Racecourse in Dubai on March 28. He said the horse also is a candidate for the Korea Cup in September and for a return trip to the Breeders’ Cup, which will be run at Keeneland.
Blue Chipper was prominent throughout in this year's Grade 1, $1 million Dirt Mile, finishing four lengths behind winner Spun to Run while earning a Beyer Speed Figure of 102. The Group 1 winner came into the race off six straight wins in Korea, by a combined margin of 45 lengths. Blue Chipper is owned by Byeong-Boo Choi, trained by Young Kwan Kim, and is leading contender for 2019 Korea Horse of the Year.
