There is a packed eight-race card at Cheltenham on Saturday, with a few longshots mixed in to consider.
Here's the rundown. Betting available on DRFBets.com. First post time is 7:05 a.m., Eastern.
Race 1 - Thyme Hill (1) - Very logical favorite who won his hurdling debut and is well-placed here in a novice hurdle at 2 9-16ths miles. He has won on good-to-soft and should be suited to these soft conditions.
Race 2 - Allmankind (3) and Mick Pastor (1). Allmankind won his hurdling debut by 37 lengths in a canter at Warwick on Nov. 8 and faces a stern class test. He is from trainer Dan Skelton's strong stable. Mick Pastor has yet to race in England, but did win a hurdle for 3-year-olds at 2 1-16 miles at Auteuil in Paris last May. This is his debut for top trainer Paul Nicholls.
Race 3 - Wholestone (3) and Redzor (2). Wholestone was a game second here in a novices chase at 3 1-16 miles on heavy turf on Oct. 25 and will face similar conditions. That was his second start of the year. Redzor, trained by Skelton, won his debut at Fakenham in a much lesser race on Oct. 16 and should be an appealing price.
Race 4 - Ramses de Teilee (1) and West Approach (2). These are the first two in the betting. Ramses de Teilee was pulled up in the Grand National in April with broken equipment. He suits this distance of 3 7-16ths miles for chasers. West Approach wsa a good second here on Oct. 2 in his first start since April and gets 11 pounds from Ramses de Teilee in the handicap conditions.
Race 5 - The BetVictor Gold Cup, the day's main race, worth $206,400.
Guitar Pete (14), Slate House (6) and Us And Them (2). Guitar Pete was third in this race and won his prep at Wetherby earlier this month in his first start since December. Slate House will be favored, having won a prep race here last month. He is likely to be 5-1 or so in a field of 18. Us And Them, trained by Joseph O'Brien, was a fine novice chaser last year and was third in a prep race at Gowran Park on Oct. 5, overcomig a bad mistake at the last fence.
Race 6 - The Butcher Said (5) and Tobefair (1). The Butcher Said won three consecutive races against lesser competition in May and June and was a good second here on Oct. 26. He gets weight from several leading contenders. Tobefair has won 9 of 19 start in hurdle races and 2 of 4 starts in this course. He is an easy favorite to support.
Race 7 - Legends Gold (6). This mare is on a three-race winning streak Trained by Rebecca Curtis, a former assistant to California-based Dan Hendricks in the 2000s, Legends Gold has won half of her six starts in hurdles. She is a threat from near the front.
Race 8 - Bit On The Side (2). This is a flat race at 2 1-16 miles for fillies, the only race without obstacles on the card. This 4-year-old was second in her debut in such a race at Ludlow on Oct. 9, losing by a half-length in her first start since May. She will benefit from that start. Midnight Callisto will be favored.
